eget værelse (A Room of one’s own)
– a spiritual, intellectual and virtual room – and
an artist collective.
We are eget værelse:
Maria Bertel
Jaleh Negari
Sonja LaBianca
Anja Jacobsen
We are composers and musicians.
eget værelse is an art collective and label, developed from the band Selvhenter in 2010. eget værelse contains the projects that we create together, alone or in collaboration with others.
At the moment eget værelse includes these projects: Selvhenter, GEK, Maria Bertel, frk. jacobsen, Jaleh Negari, Sonja LaBianca, SOLW, Meshes and Valby Vokalgruppe.
The projects in eget værelse often take inspiration from concepts and ideas originating in other art forms, as fx literature, visual art, performance or film. We explore new definitions of categories and genres. Our ambition is to create music and art that will bring new insights and perspectives.
The name eget værelse refers to an essay by
Virginia Woolf, ‘A Room of one’s own’, from 1929 about women and literature. Among other things the essay concludes that “a woman needs money and a room of her own in order to write literature”. In the same way we – eget værelse – are convinced that humans of all sexes need a space of their own and some kind of economic base in order to create art.
eget værelse is an intellectual room, a place for sharing artistic and practical knowledge – where our different experiences meet and cross-fertilize in mutual inspiration and development.
eget værelse is a fertile soil where very different plants grow and are nourished.
eget værelse is a virtual room, a web page, where you can read about and listen to the various projects and hopefully become curious about other projects and ways of understanding reality.
